Type of protected area - Where it is located
Typology: State Biogenetic Nature Reserve; established with D.M. December 20, 1975; falls within the Belluno Dolomites National Park.
The Valle Scura Biogenetic Nature Reserve, a Dolomite valley with thermophilic wood, beech and mugheta, occupies an area of 223 hectares in the Municipality of Santa Giustina (BL), at an altitude of between 655 m and 1800 m. s.l.m.

The Val Scura Reserve is characterized by natural forest formations, original floristic settlements and fauna of particular value. It is located on the right and left bank of the Veses stream. The geological substrate is calcareous. Except in some places, the slope is generally high. Below we find coppice of white hornbeam, black hornbeam, hazel, black alder; going up the beech also appears; we also find some nucleus of white fir, Scots pine and mountain pine coming from artificial plants. In the highest part the vegetation is sparser, large clear pastures with mountain pine appear.
Among the fauna species present in the Reserve, we mention the alpine chamois, the roe deer, the fallow deer (introduced), the badger, the fox, the dormouse, the marten, the squirrel, the buzzard, the black pheasant.
